Back home the mango retired to the refrigerator for a couple of days and i took it out to make Mango Rice. Both my Roommate "D" and I were excited about eating something to do with Mango for dinner. It took us about half hour finish it and we tasted it found it to be too tangy and need of chilli. So D had the honour of adding more fried red chillies to it and I , of adding salt. All was well. And we had a great dinner. Promptly, I logged into you tube and commented on the Video about how wonderful his recipe was and also the important tweaks required to reach optimum taste.
They say happiness is best experienced when it is shared, So I decided to take some for my colleagues at Office. So just before Lunch hour, i opened my box of delicious Mango rice and passed it around to two of my team mates revealing them that it was mango rice made as per my fav chef's directions. But alas, they didn't think it had anything to do with Mango. How dare they mock my cooking!! My argument was their Taste buds were dead. So next we went to my assistant manager to make him guess what rice it and to my dismay he didn't guess it either. SO on it went from person to person and i got answers like, lemon rice, tamarind rice, coconut rice (WHATTTTTTTTT !!!) and "different rice" [yes i did hear that comment too]. But once I revealed thee truth , I was consoled with twinkling eyes that it did taste like Mango rice.. [Boo hoooo :( all Liars!!!]
So my conclusion: Indian's in USA have forgotten the taste of Mango Rice. Really...You got to try out his recipe to know that I speak the truth..
You can check out his site here. Link to the Mango recipe is here , you get to see my comment also in the you tube page.
